Talk at the School of Automation in Nanjing

Prof. Martin Gaedke gave a talk on “Rules Are Infrastructure” at the School of Automation of Nanjing University of Science and Technology, China on September 18, 2026. In 45 minutes he shared what a year of living and working with AI agents taught him about trust.

The talk argued that every rule he had written down was followed, and every rule he had not written down was guessed. These unwritten rules are the starting point of VSR’s research on Collaborative Intelligence Engineering: engineering human-AI collaboration for a world where not every important rule can be written down. The School of Automation is also a co-organizer of the International Symposium on AI & Infrastructure, where Prof. Gaedke gave a keynote the following day.
