Strong VSR Presence at ICWE 2026

The VSR team made a strong impression at this year’s International Conference on Web Engineering (ICWE) in Lyon, France. A large delegation consisting of Dr. Sebastian Heil, Christoph Göpfert, Jan Haas, Maheshika Hansamalee Walpola, Lucas Schröder, and Sandra Schaftner traveled to the conference. This significant representation drew a lot of positive attention, ensuring the “Chemnitz Group” will be well remembered by the international Web Engineering community.

Our team stood out not just in numbers, but through high-level academic contributions and leadership. Dr. Sebastian Heil successfully served in a prominent role as the PhD Symposium Chair for the conference. Furthermore, Sandra Schaftner was honored with the PhD Symposium Best Paper Award for her paper titled “Deep Semantic Linking of Scientific Knowledge: An Agentic AI Framework for Knowledge Graph Construction”.

In total, the VSR professorship showcased a wide variety of research outputs, presenting three papers in the main track and another three papers at the PhD Symposium, which were also successfully featured during the interactive poster sessions.
