Description
Web applications are increasingly used not only by human users, but also by AI Agents, often in the form of AI browsers such as Comet or Atlas. These browsers integrate AI to automatically interact with web applications on behalf of their users, typically through either DOM-based or vision-based approaches, or a combination thereof. A recent development, however, has been the development of tools for web applications, which allow AI agents to access the web applications' functionalities more directly, instead of relying on the same interface used by human users. This provides a much more resource efficient way for AI agents to interact with web applications, which allows also less-capable models to be used in web agents. The goal of this thesis will be to create a prototypical implementation of a web agent based on Small Language Models (SLMs) and tool calls integrated into web applications.
