Description

Dark Patterns are often used by companies in graphical user interfaces (GUIs) with the goal that users complete actions that are to their disadvantage. Research shows that users can recognize Dark Patterns as harmful interactions in graphical user interfaces, which could possible be transferred to other interfaces as well. Chatbots are a feature that is more and more often used by companies and institutions to interact with their users. As such, Dark Patterns are not yet a concern for many in this domain, but research in this field will become more relevant in the future.

This thesis aims to build an infrastructure that can be used for research as an experimental setting to recognize Dark Patterns in Chatbots. This includes a study on already established Dark Patterns, their realisation in Chatbots and other experiment infrastructures that were already built. The solution should be a usable chatbot with at least one meaningful scenario which can be used for the previously named research. An evaluation should include the usability and feasibility of the implementation.
