The healthcare industry faces significant challenges in providing seamless navigation within healthcare facilities, where patients often struggle to find their way to their appointments, leading to delays and frustration. Clinics with mobile robot navigation face interruptions due to the absence of a remote interaction system, posing a key challenge for staff managing simultaneous local and remote interactions. Finding a seamless and efficient way to manage these multiple interactions will be crucial for the proposed solution. Therefore, it is imperative to address these issues with a comprehensive solution that improves the multi-user interaction workflow through the lens of UX design, by exploring and enhancing the usability, accessibility, and overall satisfaction of a web-based mobile robot management system as a solution.

The proposed web-based mobile robot management system streamlines navigation assistance within healthcare facilities, optimizing workflows and improving the well-being of all actors involved. It empowers clinical personnel to remotely call and interact with mobile robots through an intuitive web application with robot status update, arrival notifications, and user-centered design. Leveraging web-based technologies and a design thinking approach, the system aims to provide an efficient and user-friendly tool for enhancing navigation and workflow efficiency in healthcare facilities.

The objective of this thesis is the creation of a solution or the combination of existing approaches to solve the problem of a good user experience in multi-user management for navigation robots in a hospital environment as described above. This comprises the analysis of the state of the art of existing navigation robots especially in the healthcare industry, user interaction with these robots, and multi-user handling as well as the demonstration of the solution by a prototypical implementation of efficient workflows for multi-user handling with a web application and a suitable evaluation based on the user experience of this prototype and the compliance with requirements that were extracted through the literature research.
