Abstract
Research Data Management (RDM) is a crucial aspect of scientific work, yet many researchers still struggle to adopt best data management practices, despite significant developments in critical infrastructure supporting RDM processes. In this PhD proposal, we highlight three main problems that the current RDM infrastructure landscape faces: the misalignment of theoretical RDM models with actual research practices, the fragmented nature of related services, and the high resource investment needed to manage research data effectively. To address these issues, we sketch out a End-User oriented approach to RDM, where scientists - the End-Users - can visually compose individual research data workflows based on a set of pre-defined workflow components. The resulting workflows comprise a combination of manual tasks, automated processes, and AI-assisted operations through the Model Context Protocol, adaptable to researchers’ specific needs. We additionally provide an overview of our research plan and of potential contributions to the field of Web Engineering.
